New scientific study confirms that PureFize® effectively combats SARS-CoV-2
A scientific study conducted by a team of researchers at the University of Siena in Italy shows that PureFize® is effective in inactivating 99.9% of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the samples in less than three minutes and 99.9999% in less than ten minutes. The study has been published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
UVC light is known for its ability to penetrate the DNA of bacteria and microorganisms and prevent them from multiplying or replicating. Previous research has shown UVC light to kill the flu virus as well as two other well-known coronaviruses: severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS-CoV). Whether it could work on the novel SARS-CoV-2 virus was previously unknown.
In this study, led by Professor Gabriele Messina, the researchers used a box containing a new generation of UV technology developed by LightLab Sweden called PureFize.
According to Professor Messina, the results are very encouraging, especially as they are slightly better than similar studies (see the diagram below). “This device is the first UV-chip-based system, to our knowledge, to show effectiveness against SARS-CoV-2”, he says. “We believe that the PureFize UVC technology can play an important role in inactivating SARS-CoV-2 from objects in everyday life.”
